BELFAST, Maine — Local police say they have arrested a 22-year-old man for having sexual contact with a 14-year-old girl earlier this year.

Craig Sullivan, 22, of Belfast was arrested Friday after a Belfast Police Department investigation. He was charged with five counts of sexual abuse of a minor and two counts of possession of sexually explicit material, according to police records.

The abuse began in April and continued for several weeks, according to the police report.

Sullivan was taken to Waldo County Jail, where he was booked, and then sent to Two Bridges Regional Jail in Wiscasset. He was released from jail Sunday afternoon after paying $1,000 cash bail, according to a jail official.

According to his arrest warrant, he is not allowed to have contact with the 14-year-old girl, her family or any girl 16 years old or younger. printed on April 30, 2017
