Officials in the east London borough of Hackney, which was scarred by last month’s riots, are miffed that Britney Spears filmed a video in the area showing her robbing a store and brandishing a gun. Spears shot the clip for her upcoming single “Criminal” while she was on tour in Britain this month. The singer’s public relations firm says the video depicts Spears and boyfriend Jason Trawick “in a Bonnie and Clyde-style setup, holding shops up while on the run as armed robbers.” For Hackney Council, that was in poor taste. The council is “taking this up with the production company.” … Author Toni Morrison attended her first National Book Festival on the Washington Mall this year and received the festival’s Creative Achievement award. The 80-year-old Morrison has won a Nobel, a Pulitzer and just about every other literary prize there is to win. “What’s really comforting for me, being here, is being among people where I don’t have to defend books,” Morrison told the audience at the Library of Congress on Friday. She admitted she enjoys reading books on her iPad — especially turning the virtual pages. But when she really covets a book, she insists on holding the real thing in her hands, underlining passages, basically “ruining” it. That’s love. The festival, now in its 11th year, expanded to 115 authors and two days over the weekend. … Billy Joel plans to celebrate his 40th anniversary as a solo artist with two special releases on Nov. 8. The boxed set “Billy Joel — The Complete Albums Collection” will include remasters of all 14 of Joel’s albums, including his 2001 disc of classical compositions “Fantasies and Delusions,” and a 15th CD of rarities including B-sides and covers of Elvis Presley’s “Heartbreak Hotel” and “All Shook Up.”
