AUGUSTA, Maine — Gov. Paul LePage is proclaiming Sunday as Maine Day of Remembrance for Murder Victims.

The governor is joining Arthur Jette, the head of the Maine chapter of Parents of Murdered Children, to commemorate the day in an observance Sunday afternoon at the University of Maine at Augusta. Jette’s 21-month-old grandson and a 20-year-old baby sitter were murdered in Dexter in 1999.

The remembrance will pay tribute to the hundreds of murder victims in Maine’s history, while acknowledging the effect on family and friends.
