Former White House chief of staff to speak at University of New England

BIDDEFORD, Maine — Former White House Chief of Staff Andrew Card is speaking at the University of New England.

Card is delivering the Biddeford school’s 2011 George and Barbara Bush Distinguished Lecture on Thursday. His topic is “Whispered Interruption: Bush Leads a Changed World.”

Card, who has a home in Maine, has held top-level governmental jobs under three U.S. presidents, most recently as White House chief of staff under George W. Bush from 2001 to 2006. He also served under presidents George H.W. Bush and Ronald Reagan.

He is now acting dean of the George Bush School of Government and Public Service at Texas A&M University.
