CORNISH, Maine — The Stanley Cup is coming to Maine.

The Boston Bruins won the cup earlier this year by beating the Vancouver Canucks in the National Hockey League championship series.

WMTW-TV said winning team members and employees are awarded a day with the trophy, and that Bruins Vice President of Finance Jim Bednarek has chosen to display the trophy at Krista’s Restaurant in Cornish, where he is a regular customer.

Krista’s is holding an outdoor celebration and barbecue from 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on Sept. 28 for everyone who wants to see the cup.

I am always incredulous that Maine residents feel somehow attached to Boston sports teams.  The Sox, Patriots, Celtics, Bruins, these guys don’t know where Bangor is never mind caring about how much team spirit is in Maine.

Wrong again.  With the Patriots at least, players were sent as well.  Adam Vinatieri and others came to Bangor (I missed that opportunity).  Lonny Paxton and others came to Portland for a parade (I did get  to see that one).  Just exactly why is it ridiculous?
