PORTLAND, Maine — The captain of a Portland fishing boat has been hospitalized after being hoisted to safety by a Coast Guard helicopter 90 miles out to sea.

The Coast Guard said it rescued the 48-year-old fisherman at 10:15 a.m. Monday after crew members aboard the 44-foot Rachel T radioed to report he was suffering severe abdominal pain and vomiting. The boat was 90 miles southeast of Cape Elizabeth.

Officials say the captain, whose name was not released, was taken to Maine Medical Center in Portland.
