Husson men’s soccer team edges Thomas

WATERVILLE — Phil Frost and Tyler Metevier scored 7:04 apart early in the second half to lift the Husson University Eagles to a 3-2 men’s soccer victory over the Thomas College Terriers Saturday.

Trevor Higgins tallied a first-half goal for Husson University of Bangor. Greg Dawson and Andrew Austin each had an assist. Brian Potter made 10 saves on 26 shots.

Kyle Rabe and Michael Hand scored in the first half to give Thomas College a 2-0 lead. Matt Ford and Jacob Sirois posted assists. Winston Trott and Mikkail Crockwell combined to make 12 saves on 22 shots.

UMFK 7, UMPI 0

At Fort Kent on Saturday, Kenrick McLeod booted three goals and assisted on another to lead the host Bengals to victory.

Phathizwe Sacolo contributed two goals and an assist for 6-1 UMaine-Fort Kent, while Keith Williams II provided a goal and an assist. Kevin Dionne scored once. Spence Jacoby, Jamie De Abreu and Orlando Melando chipped in with an assist apiece.

Bryan Piaseczny and David Girouard combined to make three saves on four shots.

Joshua MacKinnon and Richard Felbaum teamed up to make nine saves on 30 shots for 2-3 UMaine-Presque Isle.

UMM 2, UMPI 1

At Presque Isle on Sunday, Rund Casseus’ goal off a Franck Zeba assist early in the second half gave UMaine-Machias a 2-0 lead and proved to be the game-winner.

Kris Wignes scored a first-half goal for 4-3 UMM and Luis Herrara made two saves on eight shots.

Craig Maffel scored an unassisted goal with about five minutes left in the game for 2-4 UMPI nad Joshua MacKinnon made five saves on 13 shots.

Unity 3, NMCC 2

At Presque Isle on Saturday, Nathan Dant netted the game-winning goal 9:08 into overtime to lift Unity College past Northern Maine Community College.

Robert Lee and Alfred Brown each scored a goal for 3-3-1 Unity. Clark Crawford added an assist. Brendan Wallace made eight saves on 15 shots.

Jacob Lassonde and Ryan Blanchette each netted a goal for 0-3 NMCC. Chad McCarthy stopped 21 of 40 shots.

MMA 1, UM-Farmington 0

At Farmington on Saturday, Abdullah Alkhayyat scored an unassisted goal on a free kick from 30 yards out at 10:50 of the first half, giving the Mariners the only goal they would need.

Trace Lacour made three saves on 11 shots for Maine Maritime Academy of Castine.

Derek Reilly made one save on four shots for UMaine-Farmington.

So. Maine 1, W. Connecticut 0

At Danbury, Conn., Mazen Aljari scored on the rebound of an Adam Groves shot early in the second half Saturday, giving the Huskies the game’s only goal in the teams’ Little East Conference opener.

Jermey Turner made seven saves for 1-5 Southern Maine of Gorham, while Jack Holub had three stops for 1-5 Western Connecticut.

Colby 1, Middlebury 0

At Middlebury, Vt., Nick Aubin scored off an assist from Nate Tolman 4:28 into overtime Saturday, lifting the Mules to victory over the 18th-ranked Panthers.

Ben Joslin made five saves on 15 shots for 2-1 Colby College of Waterville.

Tim Cahill made one saves and faced only four shots for 1-1-1 Middlebury.

Bowdoin 1, W. New England 0

At Brunswick on Saturday, Thomas Henshall redirected a feed from Sam White on a give-and-go with only 4:24 gone in the contest, giving the Polar Bears the margin of victory.

Will Wise made four saves on nine shots for 2-1 Bowdoin College.

Domenick Villano made three saves on nine shots for 6-2 Western New England of Henniker, N.H.

Women’s soccer

Dartmouth 1, Maine 0

At Hanover, N.H., Marina’s Moschitto’s goal at the 33:53 mark lifted Dartmouth by Maine on Sunday.

Meagan Price-Leibenzeder made one save on 10 shots for 3-3-1 Maine while Colleen Hogan made one save on five shots for 2-4-1 Dartmouth.

UMFK 4, UMPI 0

At Fort Kent, Victoria Dubois-Iredale scored two goals and set up a third to lead the undefeated UMaine-Fort Kent Bengals by UM-Presque Isle

Whitney Sinclair provided a goal and an assist for the 5-0 University of Maine-Fort Kent, while Angela Norsworthy scored once. Theresa Biggs added an assist.

Sydney Proctor made three saves on five shots.

Taylor Ussery made six saves on 21 shots for 3-2 UMaine-Presque Isle.

UMM 2, UMPI 0

At Presque Isle, Erin O’Conner assisted on Kimberly Pratt’s first-half goal and scored a second-half goal on a pass from Cayla Thomas to lift UMaine-Machias by UM-Presque Isle on Sunday.

Courtney Ross made six saves on 14 shots for 4-1-1 UMM and Taylor Ussery made three saves on eight shots for 3-3 UMPI.

Husson drops two games

Husson University of Bangor dropped two road contests, losing 1-0 Saturday at Thomas College and falling 3-0 to Wheaton on Sunday.

At Waterville on Saturday, Mary Grace Morris scored on an assist from Jasmine Ryan with 13:33 elapsed in the second half, accounting for the only goal of the contest.

Kate Tibodeau made 12 saves on 22 shots for Thomas College.

Jessica Poulin made one save and faced two shots for Husson.

At Norton, Mass., Kristina Braga scored twice in the second half to power Wheaton College to a Sunday victory.

Cassey Muse scored the other goal for the winners. Erin Cawley was not required to make a save on one shot.

Sarah Laplante made six saves on 27 shots for the Eagles.

UM-Farmington 2, MMA 0

At Farmington on Saturday, Kayla Tuttle scored one goal and assisted on another, both in the second half, to lead the Beavers to victory.

Ava Amador scored the other goal for the University of Maine-Farmington, while Beth Lebel made two saves on two shots.

Taylor O’Malley and Kelsie Hilton combined to register 16 saves on 18 shots for Maine Maritime Academy of Castine.

UMF 0, Rivier 0

At Farmington on Sunday, UMF’s Beth Lebell made nine saves and Rivier’s Christine Surber made 16 to preserve the double overtime tie.

UMF senior defender Jen Richter cleared the ball from the goal line after a scramble in front of the net to help secure the tie.

W. Connecticut 2, So. Maine 0

At Gorham on Saturday, Jiilian Duran scored a goal in each half to spark the Colonials to victory.

Caitlin Avery and Katie Wolfe provided assists for 4-2 Western Connecticut. Avery was not forced to make a save and faced one shot.

Kat Rothe made eight saves on 15 shots for 2-4 Southern Maine.

Middlebury 4, Colby 0

At Waterville on Saturday, Scarlett Kirk registered a hat trick to power the Panthers past the Mules.

Julia Favorito scored the other goal, while Rachel Madding added an assist for 1-0-1 Middlebury (Vt.). Jocelyn Remmert made eight saves on 11 shots.

Emily Brook made seven saves on 24 shots for 2-1 Colby.
