Husson rolls to two field hockey victories


The Husson University Eagles improved to 5-1 after beating Lassell 7-0 on Saturday and routing Becker 9-0 on Sunday in college field hockey action.
Mariah Arno scored two goals, both in the first half, to propel the Eagles to victory on Saturday in Newton Mass. Sabrina Vaillancourt posted a goal and two assists for Husson of Bangor, while Makayla Stevens, Elizabeth Noddin and Kajsa Blindow scored one goal apiece. Noddin and Blindow added assists.
Kristen Capen and Chelsea Kondratowicz combined to make one save on two shots.
Christine Thornton made 13 saves and faced 20 shots for 1-4 Lasell.
On Sunday in Leicester, Mass., Noddin scored three goals and Vaillancourt added two goals and two assists to power Husson. Emily Murphy chipped in with two goals while Amanda Stubbs and Lori Hiltz each added one. Copen made one save while Samantha-Jo Dilkes made 10 saves on 27 shots for 1-6 Becker.

UM-Farmington 10, Rivier 0
At Nashua, N.H., Lily Barry scored three goals to power the Beavers to victory on Saturday.
Cheyenne McCarthy and Jennifer Bernhardt tallied two goals each for UMaine-Farmington, while Annie Agnew, Kaitlyn BUllen and Kashley Weymouth added one apiece. Weymouth and Agnew added assists, with Tabatha Plourde and Curran Brierley combining for four saves on four shots.
Molly Thagouras racked up 22 saves on 45 shots for Rivier College.

Middlebury 5, Colby 1
At Middlebury, Vt., Lauren Greer scored two goals and set up another to propel Saturday No. 7 MIddlebury to victory.
Charlotte Gardiner also scored twice for the 2-0 Panthers, while Elinore O’Brien netted one. Heather Karpas, Margaret Souther and Lucy Jackson posted assists. Becca Shaw made six saves on nine shots.
Hannah O’Brien scored on a Kelly Roth assist for 0-2 Colby College of Waterville. Michelle Burt made seven saves on 19 shots.

U-New England 4, Endicott 2
At Biddeford on Saturday, Hannah Tavella and Michelle Oswald scored two goals each to propel the Nor’easters to their seventh win without a loss.
Tavella scored twice in the second, including once on a penalty corner, to give the University of New England the upper hand. Casey Clark, Emily Koehler and Hayley LaPointe provided assists.
Kaitlyn Warren made four saves on nine shots.
Taylor Teixeira made 16 saves on 31 shots for 1-5 Endicott College.

Bowdoin 2, Brandeis 1
At Brunswick on Saturday, Ellery Gould scored off an Amanda Kinneston assist 24 minutes into the second half, giving the Polar Bears the eventual game-winner.
Stacie Sammot scored an unassisted first-half goal for Bowdoin. Louise Johnson made five saves on 12 shots.
Sapir Edalati scored on a Corinne Bortniker assist for Brandeis. Michelle Savuto and Francine Kofinas combined to make six saves on 18 shots.

So. Maine 3, Bridgewater State 0
At Bridgewater, Mass., Kailey Bubier, Bethany Bougie and Whitney McDaniel scored a goal apiece to pace the Huskies of Gorham to victory on Saturday.
Kayla Kennedy made seven saves on 10 shots for 4-3 University of Southern Maine.
Cassie Johansen and Kacie Sturgeon combined to make five saves on nine shots for 1-3 Bridgewater State.

St. Joseph’s 3, Simmons 2
At Boston on Sunday, Brittany Locke scored two first-half goals and Renee Leach added one in the second half to help St. Joe’s hold on.
Sarah Bartell, Rachelle Messuri and Melanie Allen each notched an assist for 3-1 St. Joe’s of Standish and Meaghan Johnson made nine saves.
For 4-2 Simmons, Katelyn Tighe scored both goals and Renna Smith made seven saves.
