BREWER, Maine — A teenage employee of Walmart who allegedly has been stealing cash from the registers for months was arrested Saturday morning for felony theft, Brewer police Cpl. Steve Boyd said Sunday.

Douglas Doucette, 19, of Carmel was arrested at around 10:40 a.m. and charged with taking cash from the registers “between January and now,” Boyd said.

The total amount of money reportedly taken by Doucette over the last nine months exceeded $1,000, Boyd said.

He was taken to Penobscot County Jail in Bangor after his arrest and was later released, a jail official said. If convicted of the felony theft, Doucette could face a penalty of up to five years in prison and a fine of up to $5,000. (Nok-Noi Ricker, BDN)
