Pleasant Point man arrested in taxi driver assault

Posted Sept. 18, 2011, at 6:53 p.m.

BANGOR, Maine — An intoxicated Pleasant Point man was arrested Saturday night after he assaulted a taxicab driver and then refused to pay his fare, Bangor police Sgt. Jim Buckley said Sunday.

A dispatcher for the taxicab company called police at around 8:55 p.m. to say Kyle Newall, 23, was assaulting one of the drivers, the sergeant said.

“He crawled over the back seat and was trying to take the keys, saying they were his keys,” Buckley said.

Newall was arrested and charged with assault. The cab driver did not need medical attention, the sergeant said.

Because Newall also refused to pay his cab fare, he also was charged with theft of services. He was taken to Penobcot County Jail after his arrest and remained there Sunday night, a jail official said. (Nok-Noi Ricker, BDN)
