UNITY, Maine — The 350.org Moving Plant climate action event will take place during the Common Ground Country Fair on Saturday starting at 3:30 p.m.

John Zavodny, director of the Center of Environmental Arts and Humanities at Unity College and host of a radio show on WERU, will serve as primary planner for the event.

“Climate change will not be solved by a single individual, single program or single discipline,” Zavodny said in a press release. “Similarly, the Moving Planet climate change action at Common Ground involves several organizations including Unity College, Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association, Transition Towns, 350.org — and there’s still time for other groups to get involved.”

The number 350 refers to the amount of carbon, in parts per million, the atmosphere can safely contain. Current estimates put the amount of carbon in the atmosphere just above 390 parts per million.

The event will be held at the Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association grounds at the fair.
