Meg Adams of Holden, whose popular postings from a research station in Antarctica captivated Bangor Daily News readers, now studies nursing at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore and keeps a lively and insightful blog about her experiences there.

“Pregnant women don’t scare me the way they did before I became a doula. Touching patients, the casual intimacy of healthcare, doesn’t scare me the way it did in my first months of being a nursing student. It’s staggering how much 12 months can change everything. I’m going to go palpate some bellies today. And it’s going to be awesome.”
