FORT FAIRFIELD — A Fort Fairfield man who worked with a local after-school program was arrested Thursday after investigators say they found at his home sexually explicit images of children as young as 5 years old.

Sgt. Glenn Lang of the Maine State Police Computer Crimes Unit said Friday that Jake Rogeski, 23, was charged with possession of sexually explicit material after members of Lang’s unit spent a few days in Aroostook investigating a tip.

He said the investigators searched Rogeski’s residence on Thursday and discovered the images, including 15 video clips, in his possession. Lang said the children in the images appear to be between 5 and 7 years old. Police do not believe that any of the victims are from the community.

Marc Gendron, superintendent of SAD 20, said Friday evening that Rogeski was employed by the school district to assist with its 21st Century After School program. The 23-year-old submitted his resignation on Thursday. He had worked in the program for three or four years with children in grades three to six, according to Gendron. Students in the program receive help with their homework, are given healthful snacks and participate in other programs to help them excel academically and socially.

Gendron said district officials were immediately made aware of the situation after Rogeski’s arrest. The district sent out a letter to the 50 parents of the children in the 21st Century program, and also to parents of all students in kindergarten through eighth grade, to make them aware as well.

Gendron said that there are no plans for a community meeting at this point, but officials will be discussing the situation more on Monday.

Lang said Rogeski was taken to the Fort Fairfield Police Department after his arrest and was able to post bail. His bail conditions mandate that he have no contact with children under 18 years old. He also cannot possess any technology that could be used to access the Internet.

He will be arraigned in Aroostook County Superior Court in Caribou on Dec. 15.
