ORONO, Maine — A University of Maine student who sped out of the Cutler Health Center on campus Wednesday night, hitting curbs and ripping up part of the lawn as he went, later was charged, Joe Carr, university spokesman, said on Thursday.

Aakon Mahboud, 25, who lives off campus, was seen by witnesses speeding away from the health care center around 9:10 a.m. and was stopped shortly afterward by police and charged with criminal mischief, Carr said.

Why Mahboud left Cutler in such a hurry was not released. The cost to repair the damage to the lawn was not available on Thursday, Carr said. (Nok-Noi Ricker, BDN)
