GEORGE H. WASSON JR.

BUCKSPORT – George H. Wasson Jr., 92, known as "Hornet," was born Sept. 20, 1918, in Bucksport, and died peacefully Sept. 10, 2011, surrounded by his loving family at Blue Hill Memorial Hospital. He was a longtime resident of Bucksport, and the son of George H. Wasson Sr. and Daisy (Gott) Wasson.

He was an Army and Merchant Marine veteran of World War II, member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, National Rifle Association, American Legion and Disabled American Veterans. Although George was a mechanic by trade, he never encountered a task he couldn’t handle. His keen intellect, sharp wit and great sense of humor will be missed by all.

George is survived by three daughters, Aline Wasson and husband, John, of Milton, N.H., Carolyn Harada and husband, Harry, of Lebanon, and Nancy Wasson of Orland; one sister, Doris Knight of Katy, Texas; along with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A memorial service with a celebration of his life will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, at Mitchell-Tweedie Funeral Home, 28 Elm St., Bucksport, with Pastor Peter Remick officiating. Interment will be at Hillside Cemetery, Bucksport. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in memory of George H. Wasson Jr. to Maine Veterans Home, 44 Hogan Road, Bangor, ME 04401.
