Sen. Olympia Snowe joins Senate Oceans Caucus

PROVIDENCE, R.I. — U.S. Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse, D-R.I., is leading a new bipartisan Senate group to work on issues affecting the oceans.

Whitehouse is co-chairman of the Senate Oceans Caucus with U.S. Sen. Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska. The group held its first meeting Tuesday.

The caucus was created to highlight challenges and opportunities facing coastal regions.

Other Democrats in the caucus are John Kerry of Massachusetts, Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut, Barbara Boxer of California, Maria Cantwell and Patty Murray of Washington, Ben Cardin of Maryland, Tom Carper and Chris Coons of Delaware, Daniel Inouye and Daniel Akaka of Hawaii, Mark Begich of Alaska, Mary Landrieu of Louisiana and Ron Wyden of Oregon.

Other Republican members include Scott Brown of Massachusetts, Olympia Snowe of Maine and Lindsey Graham of South Carolina.
