Belfast Co-op to Host Free Vermicomposting Workshop

BELFAST — Tthe Belfast Co-op will welcome WormMainea’s Mark Follansbee, who will lead a workshop on composting with worms1-3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 17. This event is free and open to all and will take place at Waterfall Arts, 256 High St.

Vermicomposting uses worms, typically red wigglers, to convert food scraps into rich, fertile soil to be used on the garden and houseplants. This workshop will include: an introduction to vermicomposting, setting up and maintaining a worm bin, making a bin with the group, seeing a bin in action, learning about harvesting and using vermicompost, and Q&A.

Follansbee will bring pre-ordered red wiggler worms, available for $20 a pound, and vermicompost kits (worm bin plus 1 pound red wigglers) available for $35. Pre-order your worms and kits through Worm Mainea at: and be sure to let him know you’re ordering for his 9-17 presentation in Belfast.
