Southern Maine boys hospitalized after becoming intoxicated

By Ryan McLaughlin, BDN Staff

SOUTH BERWICK, Maine — Two Marshwood High School students remain in a New Hampshire hospital Monday after becoming intoxicated Saturday night, police said.

The boys, ages 15 and 16, “had taken a couple drinks” on Saturday night at the 16-year-old’s residence, according to South Berwick police Chief Dana Lajoie.

Police had received a call at about 11:45 a.m. Sunday to go to the older boy’s Brattle Street residence, and both boys were subsequently transported to Wentworth Douglas Hospital in Dover, N.H., Lajoie said.

The chief said the alcohol the boys consumed came from a neighbor’s garage, and that the investigation is ongoing.

“We can confirm there was a bottle in the garage that looks like an alcohol bottle,” Lajoie said.

The names of the boys weren’t released because they are juveniles.
