Greenville police apprehend Massachusetts fugitive

By Diana Bowley, BDN Staff

GREENVILLE, Maine — A Massachusetts man who was a fugitive from justice in that state was arrested Saturday in Greenville.

Brian Hancock, 54, of Waltham, Mass., who is wanted on a domestic violence charge, allegedly had contemplated suicide by cop in his home state before fleeing to Maine, Greenville Police Chief Jeff Pomerleau said Sunday.

Pomerleau said he received information that Hancock was in the area of The Forks on Friday so his department was on the alert. On Saturday, Hancock’s vehicle was spotted at the Indian Hill Trading Post and Supermarket. Police waited until Hancock had left the store and made the arrest without incident, he said.

Hancock was charged with being a fugitive from justice based on the Massachusetts warrant, according to Pomerleau. He was taken to the Piscataquis County Jail. He is expected to make a court appearance Monday in Dover-Foxcroft District Court when the extradition process will begin.
