Early morning crash leads to OUI charge for Fort Kent woman

By Jen Lynds, BDN Staff

ST. JOHN PLANTATION, Maine — A Fort Kent woman was charged with operating under the influence after a single-car crash in St. John early Saturday morning.

State police Sgt. Tom Pelletier said that the crash took place at around 4:45 a.m. on Route 161. According to Pelletier, Leslie Nichols, 32, was eastbound on the roadway when she veered off the pavement and struck an embankment and trees. The 2008 Dodge she was driving came to rest on the south side of the roadway.

The Fort Kent Ambulance Department went to the scene, but Pelletier said Saturday that Nichols was not seriously injured and was not taken to the hospital. Nichols’ vehicle had extensive front-end damage and likely was a total loss.

Trooper Dan Marquis investigated the accident.
