BERWICK, Maine — Three juveniles, ages 11, 13 and 16, have been charged with arson in connection with three separate fires, and another juvenile, age 10, has been charged with failing to report a dangerous fire.

The first fire occurred in a woodpile behind the Berwick Recreation Fields near Fairway Lane on Aug. 22; the second was started inside the vacant Prime Tanning Warehouse Building on Sullivan Street on Aug. 26; and the third occurred on Sept. 2 in a wooded area off Morse Street.

The Prime Tanning Warehouse sustained significant damage, according to Detective Bill Russell with the Berwick Police Department. It appears the juveniles set the fires and then ran away from the scenes, Russell said.

No mutual aid was called in any of the fires and no one was injured.

Three of the suspects were released to their parents to remain on house arrest. The 16-year-old juvenile, who had a previous criminal history, is being held in a juvenile detention center in Portland.
