An outing to the Halfway Brook area in Costigan produced a few photo opportunities worth sharing, said Dave Small of Old Town. “I’d like to say that the blackberries have been really tasty this summer. I’ve eaten more than my share, but always leave some for the critters. My favorite this week was the red-bellied snake. I don’t see them often, so it’s a treat when I do. I have not figured a way to photograph its belly yet and Deb [my wife] won’t hold them. The hooded merganser juvenile was special as well. It took me quite awhile to identify this guy. I had some fairly nice light for the shot. I’m still fascinated with the hummingbird moth, it’s such a strange critter, I wanted to include one more shot of it taken at Merryspring Nature Center in Camden earlier this summer.”
