ROCKPORT — The Penobscot Bay YMCA announced that it has purchased the property at 120 Union St. in Rockport, known as the Lily Pond House. The building and land, adjacent to the Y, previously were owned by Steven Huyler.
“When this opportunity presented itself,” said YMCA Executive Director Troy Curtis, “the Y board of directors could see several compelling reasons for the Y to acquire the property.”
The Y will use parts of the building for its own programming, the additional parking will ease crowding during the winter months and when special events are held, and the association will gain much needed green space for youth programs.
“The price was attractive, we took advantage of a low financing rate and rental income on the property will support the purchase. Long term, this secures the Y’s ability to expand and grow on our Union Street campus,” Curtis said.
