YORK, Maine — A familiar, furry face bid Maine visitors farewell for the season at the turnpike’s southern gate.

Miles the Moose was at the York Toll Plaza on Labor Day beginning at 11 a.m. to say so long to departing tourists.

Starting an hour earlier, turnpike toll collectors began handing out 15,000 refrigerator magnets to motorists.

The pennant-shaped magnets depict the state’s natural beauty as well as some traditional Maine activities such as boating, snowmobiling and cross-country skiing.
