LEWISTON — Police on Saturday were investigating an early morning incident in which an Auburn man was shot in the buttocks at a residence on Sabattus Street.
Sgt. David St. Pierre said police went to the area of 1361 Sabattus St. around 2 a.m. after a 911 call reporting two gunshots.
St. Pierre said police arrived and found Wayne Powell, 33, of Auburn lying on the ground outside the residence suffering from a gunshot wound. St. Pierre said Powell had been shot with a small-caliber handgun.
Powell was taken to Central Maine Medical Center and treated for what St. Pierre said was a wound that was not life-threatening.
St. Pierre said detectives had interviewed several persons of interest. Police had not made an arrest as of late Saturday evening.
No further information was available Saturday night.
According to arrest records, Powell has had several brushes with local police. St. Pierre said Powell had been arrested several times since 2006, the most recent being an arrest for domestic violence assault in August.
