INDUSTRY, Maine — Excessive speed is suspected as the cause of an ATV accident Sunday that left a Massachusetts man hospitalized, according to the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife.

Two men were riding a single ATV on Greenwood Brook Road in Industry when they hit an embankment and flipped the vehicle. The passenger, Ryan Murray, 23, of Lowell, Mass., suffered an injury to his left leg when he was pinned beneath the ATV. He was taken to Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington. He was conscious and talking with medical personnel at the scene, according to a press release.

The driver, 22-year-old Justin Messina of Tewksbury, Mass., who was thrown from the vehicle and not injured, freed Murray from beneath the ATV.

Both men were wearing helmets.

Game Wardens Kris MacCabe and Kim Bates went to the scene, which was near Messina’s grandparents’ house in this rural Franklin County town.
