Jay man arrested twice in one day

By Donna M. Perry, Sun Journal

FARMINGTON, Maine — A Jay man arrested on a warrant Wednesday was arrested again at the Franklin County Jail after police said a small amount of marijuana fell out of his clothing during a strip search.

Edward Barbioni, 28, turned himself in to Jay police Wednesday and was arrested on a warrant pertaining to a July 28 incident where he failed to stop for Jay police, went through a police roadblock and then fled on foot.

Barbioni was taken to Franklin County jail. He was patted down in a search and processed quickly so he could be taken to court, Franklin County Sheriff Lt. Niles Yeaton said Thursday.

After returning to court, Barbioni was strip searched and waited in the booking area to see if he could make $150 cash bail, Yeaton said.

When he couldn’t make bail, he was stripped searched again to get into jail clothing and a small amount of marijuana fell out of his clothing, Yeaton said.

Jail personnel called in Deputy Christopher Chase who arrested Barbioni on a charge of trafficking in prison contraband.

Barbioni faces charges from Jay in relation to the July incident of failure to stop for a police officer, eluding, speeding, passing a police roadblock and operating while his license was suspended, police said previously.
