Pleasant Point teen crossing road struck by car and injured

PLEASANT POINT, Maine — A 17-year-old local girl was struck by a car Thursday evening as she was crossing Route 190 near Warrior Road.

Pleasant Point police Officer Peter Harris said Friday that the girl, whom he would not identify because of her age, was running across the road to meet a car filled with friends that had stopped on the opposite side. The teens were headed to soccer practice, Harris said. The incident happened about 5:50 p.m.

Sherry Walton of Eastport was driving the 1996 Subaru that struck the girl.

The teen was airborne for a short time and then fell to the roadway, Harris said. She suffered head injuries and lacerations and was taken by Sipayak Ambulance Corps to Calais Regional Hospital. She then was transferred to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor.

Harris said the girl’s condition appeared to improve by Friday morning and she would recover.

Harris said speed was not a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.
