HAMPDEN, Maine — A Madawaska woman escaped serious injury when a brick crashed through her car’s windshield Friday afternoon while she was traveling south on Interstate 95.

Dorine Deschaine, 46, suffered minor injuries as a result of the incident but declined a trip to the hospital, Trooper Trevor Snow of the Maine State Police said.

Deschaine’s car, however, did not fare as well. Besides a broken windshield, the car had dents and scratches on its hood and some interior damage, Snow said.

Snow said that the brick incident occurred shortly after 3 p.m., while Deschaine was driving behind a blue pickup towing a trailer loaded with items that included furniture, sections of wooden lattice and other construction materials.

At some point near the I-95 rest stop in Hampden, a brick escaped the pile, landed on the pavement, bounced up onto the hood of Deschaine’s car and then crashed through the driver’s side of her windshield, landing in the front passenger compartment, Snow said. No one was sitting in the passenger seat at the time.

The blue pickup could not be located Friday, Snow said. He said Deschaine was not able to get the truck’s license plate number.
