Nokomis, Belfast battle to 1-1 tie in field hockey

NEWPORT — Nokomis’ Leah Edmondson knocked in a Marissa Shaw pass late in the second half to help the Warriors tie the Belfast Lions 1-0 in a mutual high school field hockey opener Thursday.

Kendra Underhill saved four of eight shots for the Warriors.

Lexi Nelligan scored a second-half goal for Belfast, with Maddie Cummings assisting. Julia Ward stopped 18 of 23 shots.

JV: Nokomis 7-0

Boys soccer

Washburn 3, FF Tigers 2

WASHBURN — Jordan McLaughlin scored a pair of first-half goals and assisted on Mitchell Worcester’s goal as Washburn built a 3-0 lead and withstood a second-half rally by the Fort Fairfield Tigers en route to a 3-2 high school boys soccer victory Thursday..

One of McLaughlin’s goals was a penalty kick. Nick Bragg also had an assist and Zach Davis made five saves on 17 shots for the 5-1-1 Beavers.

Mike McLellan and Jake Wortman scored for 1-4 Fort Fairfield and Derek Dufour made 10 saves on 20 shots.

Madawaska 4, CAHS 1

At Mars Hill, Ian Lee recorded three goals as Madawaska remained undefeated at 5-0.

Dylan Whitmore added a goal for the Owls. Kyle Blanchette had eight saves on 18 shots.

Dan Brewer scored for 2-2-2 Central Aroostook. Ross Grass saved nine of 24 shots.

SAHS 6, Katahdin 1

At Stacyville, Patrick Goodall had three goals and assisted on two others as Southern Aroostook of Dyer Brook improved its record to 1-1-1.

Cody Lassonde had a goal and an assist and Parker Walker and Cameron Landry had the other goals.

Jesse Boulier and Will McGary combined for three saves on five shots.

Victor Cloukey had a goal for 0-1 Katahdin and Jesse McNally and Cody Brownlee teamed up for eight saves on 20 shots.

Presque Isle 4, Caribou 0

At Caribou, the Wildcats scored four goals in a seven-minute span in the second half to overtake Caribou.

Isaac Lajoie had two goals and Wilder York a goal and two assists for 2-0 Presque Isle. Jake Player added a goal and Andrew Kofstad saved seven of nine shots.

Matt Manter stopped six of 15 shots for 0-3 Caribou.

JV: PI 2-1

Fort Kent 5, Van Buren 0

At Fort Kent, Brandon Hartt scored three times and Phillip Ouellette had a goal and an assist to lead Fort Kent past Van Buren.

Sebastian Chiasson had the other goal for 3-2 Fort Kent. Abraham Desjardins had two assists and Jessie Daigle had one. Cody Plourde made three saves on four shots.

Marc Lajoie had seven saves on 30 shots for 2-5 Van Buren.

Girls soccer

Washburn 4, Fort Fairfield 0

At Washburn, Carsyn Koch netted two goals while Mackenzie Worcester had another plus an assist to lead the undefeated Beavers to their seventh win.

Carmen Bragg added a goal for Washburn. Rayah Saucier saved eight of 11 shots.

Katie Donovan stopped 16 of 31 shots for 3-2 Fort Fairfield.

Madawaska 4, CAHS 0

At Mars Hill, Nicole Cyr scored a pair of goals and Meagan Pelletier made 10 saves as Madawaska improved to 2-3-1.

Meagan Ouellette and Shannon Blanchette had the other Madawaska goals.

Paige Garrison made five saves on 12 shots for 1-3-1 Central Aroostook.

Wisdom 2, LCS/MSSM 2

At St. Agatha, Vanessa Pelletier and Ashley Beaulieu scored second-half goals to help Wisdom tie Limestone/Maine School of Science and Math.

Stephanie Leighton and Mariah Williams had scored in the first half for Limestone.

Taylor Hobbs saved 22 of 32 shots for the 1-4-1 Pioneers while Jordan Hopkins had 15 saves on 23 shots for the 1-3-1 Eagles.

Fort Kent 3, Van Buren 1

At Fort Kent, Michela Desjardins had two goals and assisted on another by Lexi Desjardins as the Warriors defeated Van Buren.

Alexa Pelletier had two saves on four shots for Fort Kent.

Parise Rossingol scored on a penalty kick for Van Buren. Ashlie Wilson saved 12 of 20 shots.
