PORTLAND, Maine — Maine utility officials keep chipping away at the remaining power outages left by Tropical Storm Irene, and about 1,500 customers customers are still without service as of 9 p.m. Thursday.

Central Maine Power Co. reported that the remaining 20 towns with customer outages are mostly in Cumberland, Oxford and York counties. The company said it was trying to restore power to all customers by late Tuesday night.

Farther north and east, Bangor Hydro-Electric Co. reported no storm-related outages.

About 280,000 CMP customers had lost electrical service at one time or another due to the weekend storm.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
