Late Russell goal lifts MA Lynx past Orono

ORONO — Morgan Russell scored off a pass from Ashlee Jipson with 2:10 remaining in the second half Wednesday afternoon, lifting Mattanawcook Academy of Lincoln to a season-opening 1-0 field hockey victory over Orono.

Colleen Albert did not face any shots in the cage for the Lynx.

Jessica Miller piled up 18 saves on 19 shots for 0-1 Orono.

JV: 0-0

Foxcroft 6, Hermon 0

At Dover-Foxcroft, Rachel Keane scored three goals as Foxcroft Academy earned the shutout victory.

Monica Miles scored twice for the 1-0 Ponies, while Kyra Brown also scored a goal. Emily Higgins contributed two assists and MacKenzie Coiley one assist for Foxcroft.

Cassie Curtis was not required to make a save in goal for the Ponies.

Nicolette Hashey made 46 saves on 52 shots for 0-1 Hermon.

JV: Foxcroft 2-0

Central 4, Piscataquis 0

At Corinth, Kayla Grindle scored twice to lead Central to the season-opening victory.

Logan Wilson and Abby Colbry also scored for the Red Devils, while Katie Blanchard had two assists.

Bree Skolfield saved all three shots she faced in goal for Central.

Jen Chapman made seven saves on 11 shots for 0-1 Piscataquis of Guilford.

Dexter 8, Old Town 0

At Dexter, Jordyn Bell scored three goals and Peyton Watson and Darci Perkins had two goals and two assists apiece as the Tigers opened their season with a victory.

Whitney Mower also scored for Dexter, while Chrissy Cunningham, Libby Kain, Danielle Mower and Elize Cyr each contributed an assist.

Maicee Gustin preserved the shutout in goal by making two saves on four Old Town shots.

Erica Ogden made 26 saves on 40 shots for Old Town.

Girls soccer

Caribou 0, Presque Isle 0 (OT)

At Caribou, Morgan Swan made seven saves on 18 shots for Caribou, including a diving save off Kayla Richard’s 22-yard direct free kick in the second half, to preserve the tie against archrival Presque Isle.

Meredith Stewart made six saves on 10 shots for Presque Isle.

Caribou is 2-0-1 while Presque Isle was playing its opener.

JV: Caribou 2-1

Easton 3, Ashland 2 (2OT)

At Presque Isle on Tuesday night, Maria Cyr tied it with 1:05 left in regulation and assisted on Carla Halvorson’s game-winner 35 seconds into the second overtime as Easton improved to 4-2.

Mindy Desmond assisted on Cyr’s tying goal. Stephanie Hammond had the other Easton goal and Caitlin Monroe made 11 saves on 27 shots.

Marissa Chasse and Anna Paradis scored for 1-3 Ashland and Kayla Cote picked up an assist. Macie Bellanceau made 15 saves on 19 shots.
