LUBEC, Maine — Tempers flared at a wedding reception Saturday night at Lubec, resulting in the stabbing and beating of one man, police say.

Justin McClure, age unavailable, of Calais was treated at Down East Community Hospital for facial lacerations and stab wounds, according to Maine State Trooper Staci Carpenter. McClure and several others had been drinking and McClure allegedly took offense to negative comments he believed were made toward his girlfriend, Carpenter said Monday.

An altercation ensued and McClure was beaten and stabbed, Carpenter said. He was taken by ambulance to DECH. Several witnesses reported to Carpenter that they had heard gunshots during the fight. Carpenter said McClure’s injuries were not life-threatening, and he was released from the hospital after being treated.

The stabbing took place around 8:15 p.m. Saturday. Carpenter, Maine State Police Detective Elmer Farren and Sgt. Alden Bustard responded to the call, along with deputies from Washington County Sheriff’s Department. No one was arrested. Carpenter said she still was interviewing participants and witnesses Monday afternoon.
