PALMYRA, Maine — The Public Works Department soon will be getting a new garage.
“The one they’ve had has been there for years. It’s falling apart,” said Town Clerk Val Sprague. “You can’t heat it. You’re lucky if it gets 50 degrees in there [in the winter]. It’s just about ready to be condemned.”
Palmyra used Plymouth Engineering to gather bids for the project. Sprague said the town has received seven or eight bids.
A Board of Selectman’s meeting will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday to review bids and specifications. A contractor will be selected during a meeting at 6 p.m. Thursday.
The new garage will be big “enough to get two trucks in there if they need to,” said Sprague.
The town voted to borrow $235,000 for the project and it aims to have it completed before winter.
