Rioux leads Van Buren girls soccer team by Fort Fairfield


VAN BUREN — Chantal Rioux scored a goal and assisted on two others to help lead the Van Buren Crusaders to a 3-1 schoolgirl soccer victory over the Fort Fairfield Tigers Saturday.

Natasha Bourgoin scored a goal in the first half for the 3-2 Crusaders while Haley Lizotte and Rioux each netted a goal in the second. Lizotte also chipped in with an assist. Ashlie Wilson made 15 saves on 19 shots.

Kacie York tallied an unassisted goal for the 3-1 Tigers. Katy Donovan stopped two of 12 shots.

Easton 5, Limestone 2

At Limestone, Carla Halvorson scored three goals and notched one assist to propel the Bears past the Limestone Community School/Maine School of Science and Mathematics.

Cassandra Buck chipped in with two goals and an assist for the 3-2 winners and Haley Ambrose made nine saves on 23 shots.

Kennedi Smith scored a goal and notched an assist for 1-3 Limestone and Jade McConnell added a goal. Mariah Williams recorded an assist and Karen Page made 12 saves on 23 shots.

Boys soccer

Van Buren 2, Fort Fairfield 1

At Van Buren, Caleb Roy scored on a direct kick with 19:47 left in the second half to give the Crusaders a 2-0 lead and the margin of victory.

Connor Lapierre scored on a penalty kick in the first half for 2-3 Van Buren. Marc Lajoie made six saves on eight shots.

Johnny Therault scored off a rebound with 15:35 left in the game for 1-4 Fort Fairfield. Jake Wortman made eight saves on 11 shots.

Guidelines for coaches

During this busy sports season, the BDN asks that managers and coaches for the home teams promptly report the games. Games can be reported starting at 5 p.m. on Monday through Friday and 3 p.m. on Sundays. Games can not be reported on Saturday.

Coaches and managers are urged to provide details for both teams when reporting games. First names of players on both teams as well as statistics are needed. Those not providing full details for both teams run the risk of the games not being published in the paper.
