BANGOR, Maine — Waterfront Concerts has revised the lineups for two coming shows in Bangor, replacing Gregg Allman with fellow founding Allman Brothers Band member Dickey Betts as a co-headliner for B.B. King. Organizers also added The Marshall Tucker Band as the opener for George Thorogood and the Destroyers.
The dates and ticket prices for the shows remain unchanged.
King will perform with the 67-year-old Betts, along with opening acts Big Pete Pearson and the Blue Sevilles, as well as the Mark “Guitar” Miller Trio at 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 3. Marshall Tucker will open for Thorogood at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 23.
Tickets — not including handling or service fees — are $51.50, $41.50 and $22.50 for Thorogood and Tucker and $61.50, $41.50 and $31.50 for King and Betts.
“The pricing structure really wasn’t bad. It’s more the volume to give fans some more bang for their buck,” said Waterfront Concerts promoter Alex Gray of Old Town. “Honestly, we want to give value with these shows.”
As a smaller, independent concert venue, Bangor’s Waterfront Pavilion — without any further bookings by Waterfront Concerts — would have only hosted King and Thorogood on their respective dates.
“A lot of these shows coming to Bangor are coming off bigger venues, so sometimes you have to build the tours yourself, which we won’t have to do as much now that we’re being put into the route of the regular venues with our buzz the last couple years,” said Gray. “We had always planned to add more to these bills, but the problem was just finding some suitable supporting bands.”
Gray said everything came together over the last week.
“We had it done about 10 days in with Betts, but with all the contractual stuff, it took two weeks,” he said. “I know a lot of people are really psyched about having Marshall Tucker Band added, and that could translate.”
Tickets are available for purchase in person at Mark’s Music in Brewer, online at waterfrontconcerts.com, and by phone at 783-2009.
