AUGUSTA, Maine — Public transportation services in Maine will be affected by Hurricane Irene as the storm bringing high winds and heavy rains hits the state.

The Portland International Jetport will remain open on Sunday, but airlines serving the jetport may change their schedules as a result of the storm. Passengers need to check with the carriers or on their websites to see the status of flights.

There was no immediate information on the status of Bangor International Airport during the storm.

The Downeaster passenger rail service is canceling service Sunday. Officials say it will monitor the storm and check for possible damage to the tracks before deciding whether to resume service Monday.

Vehicle ferry service to the Casco Bay Islands is expected to be canceled Sunday, based on current weather forecasts.
