ISLAND FALLS, Maine — Two juveniles were charged and a third is being sought in connection with the theft of metal from an Island Falls rail yard.

State police Trooper Brian Harris said Friday that Trooper Jillian Monahan arrived at Northern Maine Railway Yard on Thursday to respond to a report of metal theft.

Harris said a significant amount of steel railroad spikes and tracks had been taken from a pile in the rail yard.

Monahan soon determined the steel had been sold to a local metal recycling business.

Harris said she quickly developed information on three juvenile suspects.

She located two of them in the area and subsequently charged both with felony theft.

One juvenile was summoned and released to parents and the second juvenile was transported to Aroostook County Jail in Houlton and held on a probation violation.

The third suspect is being sought and the investigation is continuing.

Monahan was assisted by Troopers Dennis Quint and Chad Fuller.
