BREWER and PHOENIX – Helen H. Welch, 88, wife of the late Chester E. Welch, died Aug. 22, 2011, at her home in Phoenix. She was born Dec. 14, 1922, in Brewer, daughter of Benjamin F. and Margaret J. (Doane) Hicks.

Helen was a lifelong resident of Brewer and was a communicant of St. Teresa’s Catholic Church where she was a member of sodality and was active in church life. She was a longtime employee of the University of Maine’s Bangor campus. She always enjoyed driving her good friends Aggie and Alda around. Before moving to Arizona, she was a resident of the Ellen Leach House, Brewer.

Surviving are three children, Karen M. Brown of Phoenix, Edward P. Welch and his wife, Jean, of Clinton, and Mary Ellen Brouillette and her husband, Clayton, of Glendale, Ariz.; six grandchildren, Julie Holliday and husband, Stewart, Richard Brown and wife, Amy, Holly Enger and husband, Adam, Patrick Welch and Jessie, Kayla Krause and husband, Bill, and Jillian Wilkins and husband, Taylor; and seven great-grandchildren.

Family and friends may visit 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Monday, Aug. 29, at Kiley & Foley Funeral Service, 69 State St., Brewer, where a service honoring her life will be held 1 p.m. as the visitation concludes. Burial will be at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Bangor. Messages of condolence to her family may be offered at
