Wetmore sparks Madawaska boys past Houlton

HOULTON — Dylan Wetmore scored his second goal of the match with 12:22 left in the second half Wednesday to lift Madawaska to a 4-3 boys soccer victory over Houlton.
Houlton’s Jimmy Fitzpatrick had scored his second goal of the game just 1:23 earlier on an assist from Dan Swallow to tie the game.
Nick Guiod scored on a Swallow assist to give Houlton a 1-0 lead, but Ian Lee countered with two goals to give Madawaska a 2-1 halftime lead.
Fitzpatrick and Wetmore then swapped unassisted goals to give Madawaska its 3-2 edge.
Sam Cyr made eight saves on 12 shots for 2-0 Madawaska. Kole Buzzeo made five saves on 17 shots for 0-1 Houlton.


At Mars Hill, Spencer Stetson scored his second goal of the match on an assist from Dylan Murray midway through the second half to rally Central Aroostook to the tie with Southern Aroostook of Dyer Brook.
Dan Brewer assisted on Stetson’s first goal.
Cody Lassonde and Dylan Porter each scored for Southern Aroostook.
Ross Grass made five saves on 11 shots for 0-1-2 Central Aroostook. Jesse Boulier made 11 saves on 24 shots for 0-0-1 Southern Aroostook.

Washburn 3, Van Buren 0

At Washburn, Jordan McLaughlin scored a goal in each half, sparking the Beavers to victory over the Crusaders.
Cameron Bragg tallied the other goal for Washburn, with Nick Bragg notching an assist. Mitchell Worcester made eight saves on 10 shots.
Derek Grivois made 10 saves and faced 25 shots for 1-3 Van Buren.

Girls Soccer

Caribou 1, Fort Kent 0

At Fort Kent, Delaney Williams scored off an assist from Paige Small with 18:07 remaining in the first half, accounting for the only goal of the game.
Morgan Swan made nine saves on 12 shots for the 2-0 Vikings.
Alexa Pelletier made 11 saves on 14 shots for 0-2 Fort Kent.
JV: Caribou 3-0

Madawaska 2, Houlton 2

At Madawaska, Nicole Cyr scored on a penalty kick with 54 seconds left in the second half to rally the Owls to a tie with Houlton.
Cyr scored both Madawaska goals, the first on an assist from Meagan Ouellette.
Amanda Fogarty and Alana Pratt each scored for Houlton, which was playing its season opener.
Marina Cameron made seven saves on 14 shots for the Shiretowners, while Amanda Nadeau made 14 saves on 25 shots for 1-1-1 Madawaska.
JV: Madawaska 3-1


At Mars Hill, Katelyn Goodall scored her second goal of the game with 26 minutes left in the second half, helping Southern Aroostook of Mars Hill earn a season-opening tie against Central Aroostook.
Goodall also scored an unassisted first-half goal for the Warriors. Mallary Lawlor made seven saves on 12 shots.
Vicki McIntyre and Rachael Grew scored the goals for the 0-2-1 Panthers. Marissa Anthony added an assist. Paige Garrison made four saves on 15 shots.

Washburn 7, Van Buren 1

At Washburn, sophomore Carsyn Koch scored three goals as the Beavers remained undefeated.
Kristi Sperry, Mackenzie Worcester, Mykayla Churchill and Caitlyn Roix also scored for 4-0 Washburn, while Worcester and Carmen Bragg each added an assist.
Parise Rossignol scored an unassisted goal for 2-2 Van Buren.
Rayah Saucier made five saves on seven shots in goal for Washburn. Ashlie Wilson made 17 saves on 39 shots for Van Buren.
