Head-on collision in Boothbay claims two lives


BOOTHBAY, Maine — Two women are dead and another is in the hospital with serious injuries after a head-on collision in Boothbay on Tuesday afternoon.

Mechelle Spencer, 66, of Southport Island was traveling south on Route 27 when her 2009 Dodge Durango crossed the center line and smashed head-on into an SUV driven by Sherrill Mansir, 61, of Pittson.

Spencer and a passenger in Mansir’s vehicle, Elaine Robinson, 66, of Sidney, were killed. Mansir was taken to Maine Medical Center in Portland, according to the Press Herald.

A third vehicle, a Honda Civic driven by Phillip McGuire, 34, of New Jersey, was damaged when it crashed into the other cars but he and his passenger weren’t injured.

Police are still investigating the accident.
