PORTLAND, Maine — A local man is in custody after robbing the TD Bank branch on Congress Street late Tuesday afternoon, Portland police Lt. Gary Rogers said.
The man, whose name Rogers declined to release, walked into the bank and handed a note to a teller demanding money, Rogers said.
The note said that the suspect had a weapon, but police didn’t find a weapon on him.
The bank teller gave the suspect an undisclosed amount of cash, and he was subsequently tackled by a customer. When police arrived, numerous other customers were holding the robber on the floor, and he was unconscious when cops arrived, Rogers said.
The suspect was taken to Maine Medical Center for treatment. Rogers said the cash was recovered at the scene when the suspect was detained.
