Texas man arrested for threatening woman with beer bottle

BANGOR, Maine — A Texas man who was arrested earlier this month for repeatedly calling 911 and requesting a cab was arrested again on Sunday for threatening a woman with a beer bottle, Sgt. Paul Edwards said Monday.

Anthony “Tony” Calhoun, 43, reportedly threatened the woman because he “didn’t like the fact that she was friends with his common law wife,” the sergeant said.

Police responded to a call at the corner of Main and Ohio streets at around 3:30 p.m. Sunday and found Calhoun intoxicated and yelling obscenities.

“He basically raised a bottle by the neck and made a threatening statement that he would hit her with the bottle,” Edwards said.

Calhoun, who was found with an unlabeled bottle of Vicodin, was charged with two felonies — criminal threatening with a weapon and unlawful possession of scheduled drugs. Calhoun was arrested Aug. 1 after he repeatedly called 911 to get a taxi and even after being warned to stop, he continued doing it, Edwards said earlier this month.

He was charged with misuse of emergency 911 and unlawful possession of scheduled drugs.

Calhoun was taken to Penobscot County Jail after the Sunday incident and remained there Tuesday afternoon, a jail official said.

If convicted of either criminal threatening with a weapon or felony unlawful possession of scheduled drugs, Calhoun could face a penalty of up to five years in prison and a fine of up to $5,000. (Nok-Noi Ricker, BDN)
