BANGOR, Maine — Police are investigating a stabbing Monday night on Ohio Street that sent a local man to the hospital, Sgt. Paul Edwards said Tuesday.

A 26-year-old Bangor man was stabbed in the head at around 10 p.m. and was taken by ambulance to Eastern Maine Medical Center, the sergeant said. The victim has since been released from the hospital, he said.

Police were initially called to the corner of Ohio and James Streets to deal with a disorderly group of people. Once Officer Kevin Murphy arrived, he “heard them state that someone had been stabbed, and that a suspect was running up Ohio Street,” Edwards said.

Rescue units were called and Murphy and other officers scoured the area identifying persons of interest and taking several statements.

Detective Tim Cotton, who is part of the Criminal Investigations Division, is leading the probe into the incident, Edwards said.

Those with information about the stabbing may call the Bangor Police Department at 947-7382 and ask for Cotton, or press extension 6 and leave an anonymous message on the department’s tip line. (Nok-Noi Ricker, BDN)
