BREWER, Maine — South Main Street was closed to traffic for nearly an hour after police got a report that a person on Spring Street was “suicidal and had access to firearms,” Brewer police Capt. Jason Moffitt said after the situation was deemed resolved.

The initial report, taken at around noon, was that an man “was reportedly violent and had firearms in the house and was going to hurt himself or another person,” the police captain said.

Local police converged on the area and were able to contact the man, who was not identified, by phone and “we determined he hadn’t threatened himself or … any other person,” Moffitt said.

At that point, at around 12:45 p.m., the situation was defused and the roadway reopened.
