Hampden Kiwanis Club to host poker tournament

HAMPDEN, Maine — The Hampden Kiwanis Club will hold its monthly Texas Hold’em Poker Tournament at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 10, at the Hampden Kiwanis Civic Center. The tournament fee is $103 and limited to 100 players. All proceeds benefit Hampden Kiwanis charities. For information or to register, call Keith at 356-9949.

Documentary film about environmentalist at Fields Pond

HOLDEN, Maine — The Fields Pond Audubon Center will present a documentary film, “Green Fire,” about legendary environmentalist Aldo Leopold at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 7, at Fields Pond. The event is free and open to the public. For information, call 989-2591.

St. John’s Organ Society to present season finale

BANGOR, Maine — St. John’s Organ Society’s summer organ season finale will take place at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 25, at St. John’s Catholic Church. Listeners will hear a rarely performed masterpiece for organ, a Suite for Organ, Violin and Cello by 19th century composer Joseph Rheinberger. Violinists Anatole Wieck and cellist Peter Handford to accompany. There is no admission fee for this concert but donations will be appreciated. For information, call 974-9380.
