BANGOR, Maine — Police were called to a fight at Carolina Sports & Spirits under the Joshua Chamberlain Bridge early Saturday and when they arrived found an intoxicated man who first tried to run, then pushed the officer, Lt. Steve Hunt said Sunday.
When Officer Kyle Pelkey arrived at the bar around 12:45 a.m., he found an uncooperative Jerome Davis, 21, of Bangor, the lieutenant said.
“At one point he basically started to take off,” Hunt said. “He ended up pushing Pelkey in the chest and running away. Pelkey got up and took him to the ground and was able to handcuff him after a brief scuffle.”
Pelkey suffered cuts and scrapes but was otherwise uninjured, the lieutenant said.
Davis was charged with felony assault on a police officer as well as disorderly conduct and refusing to submit to arrest. He was taken to Penobscot County Jail and later released, said a jail official who added that Davis also is known as Jerome Sargent.
If convicted of the felony assault charge, Davis could face a penalty of up to five years in prison and a fine of up to $5,000. (Nok-Noi Ricker, BDN)
