Sleeper scores two as Caribou beats Madawaska

MADAWASKA — Olivia Sleeper scored her second goal of the game, unassisted, with 1:18 remaining in regulation Friday afternoon to lift Caribou to a season-opening 2-1 girls soccer victory over Madawaska.

Sleeper scored in the first half off a Jamie Martin assist. Morgan Swan made nine saves on 12 shots.

Nicole Cyr tallied a first-half goal, with Victoria Gagnon getting the assist, for 1-1 Madawaska. Amanda Nadeau posted 10 saves on 14 shots.

JV: Caribou 5-0.

Washburn 6, CAHS 1

At Washburn, Carson Koch registered three unassisted goals to spark Washburn by Central Aroostook of Mars Hill.

Koch tallied one goal in the first half for the 2-0 Beavers, leaving the game tied 1-1 at the half. Along with Koch’s other two goals, Mackenzie Worcester scored two in the second half. Joan Overman also chipped in with an unassisted goal. Rayah Saucier stopped eight of 15 shots.

Marissa Anthony posted an unassisted goal in the first half for 0-2 Central Aroostook. Paige Garrison made 15 saves on 39 shots.

Van Buren 8, LCS/MSSM 1

At Limestone, Parise Rossignol scored five goals and picked up an assist to propel Van Buren by Limestone Community School/Maine School of Science and Mathematics.

Chantal Rioux posted a goal and an assist for the 2-1 Crusaders. Chantal Deveau and Haley Lizotte each chipped in with a goal. Ashlie Wilson stopped 11 of 36 shots.

Kennedi Smith scored an unassisted goal in the second half for the 0-2 Eagles. Autumn Beauchamp made 15 saves on 23 shots.

Boys soccer

CAHS 4, Washburn 4 (2OT)

At Washburn, Spencer Stetson netted the game-tying goal for the Panthers with 11:04 remaining in the game as Central Aroostook of Mars Hill and Washburn battled to a tie through two overtimes.

Down 3-1 at the half, the Panthers (0-1-1) answered with goals from Mike McClung and Daniel Brewer midway through the second half. Joe Stiles scored the first-half goal while Brendan York recorded an assist on Stetson’s goal. Ross Grass made two saves on 11 shots.

Jordan McLaughlin posted two goals in the first half for 1-0-1 Washburn. Anthony Viola and Mitchell Worcester each added a goal. McLaughlin and Worcester each tallied an assist. Zach Davis stopped five on 17 shots.

Van Buren 2, LCS/MSSM 0

At Limestone, Brandon Bouchard scored an unassisted goal with 18:31 left in the second half, giving the Crusaders the only goal they would need.

Caleb Roy provided an insurance tally off a Mark Levasseur assist for 1-2 Van Buren. Mark Lajoie made six saves on 13 shots.

Dylan Nadeau had four saves on six shots for 1-1 Limestone Community School/Maine School of Science and Mathematics.
