ALFRED, Maine — Jurors have acquitted a woman but convicted her husband for passing off no-deposit containers from New Hampshire and Massachusetts as if they were purchased in Maine.

A jury in York County Superior Court on Friday found Thomas Woodward guilty. A separate jury acquitted his wife, Megan. Both were charged with theft by deception.

Prosecutors said the Woodards, who operated Green Bee Redemption in Kittery, effectively stole about $10,000 by accepting more than 100,000 bottles and cans that were purchased in Massachusetts and New Hampshire.

The defense contended the couple didn’t realize the cans and bottles were purchased outside Maine.

The Woodards were tried in the same courtroom before separate juries.
