RE/MAX: July too hot to shop for New England homes

PORTLAND, Maine — A new report says home sales in Maine were flat last month, while the other five New England states saw a decline from the previous month.

The RE/MAX New England report says all six states have seen gains this year but saw declines in July. Connecticut had the biggest drop with 24 percent fewer units being sold, followed by Massachusetts with 13 percent, New Hampshire 10 percent, Rhode Island 8 percent and Vermont 3 percent.

Maine sales were down two-tenths of a percent, which is flat. Maine and Vermont were the only states where median sale prices increased.

Jay Hummer from RE/MAX says that despite the one-month blip overall trends are up for the year. He says hot weather kept many buyers out of the market in July.
